Anna Fernandes Lucas

I grew up in Portugal, where I completed my training in Health Psychology, followed by postgraduate specialisation in Psychological Consultation, Psychotherapy and Neuropsychology — and advanced training in Schema Therapy and EMDR.

After several years of work in mental-health and psychosocial settings, I moved to Munich more than a decade ago and rebuilt my clinical practice here. I work with adults and families to reduce psychological distress, support personal development, and promote sustainable, long-term change. My work is particularly attuned to the challenges of living abroad and adapting to a new cultural context.

With more than 20 years of professional experience, my clinical work is supported by regular supervision and continuous professional development.

Approach

An integrative, scientifically grounded approach.

Therapy is tailored to your unique needs. I combine Schema Therapy to uncover deep-rooted emotional patterns, Emotion-Focused techniques to enhance emotional awareness and processing, and EMDR to help process trauma and distressing experiences.

Therapy begins with a comprehensive psychological evaluation to explore your emotional patterns, beliefs and past experiences. This helps identify the root causes of distress and establish a personalised therapeutic path. In a supportive, non-judgmental environment we work together to recognise recurring patterns, develop emotional resilience, and strengthen the coping strategies that matter most to you.

My experience with Anna has been truly transformative. I sought her support during an incredibly challenging time in my life, and from the very first session, I felt heard, understood, and supported. Her compassionate nature and ability to ask the right questions at the right moments helped me reflect deeply and come to important realizations when I needed them most. What sets Anna apart is her ability to create a safe, non-judgmental space while offering insightful guidance that genuinely makes a difference. Her support has been invaluable to my mental health and personal growth. For anyone courageous and is ready to embark on a journey of healing, I wholeheartedly recommend Anna. She has been an incredible source of strength and guidance in my life.

I am generally not good at writing reviews, but. I have been in therapy twice in my life, during COVID pandemic and now after getting hit/driven over by a car. Anna is a wonderful therapist bc she also tries to work through every minor issue besides the core. I didn't really have that with my previous therapist. She does not take health insurance, but it's money well spent bc you also get detailed summary of what you talked about and what to work on in the next weeks, which I find very useful. It gives you extra self-reflection and time to just think everything through. I do recommend her as a therapist

I am so grateful that I found Anna's practice here in Munich. I've had regular sessions with Anna now for over a year and a half, and in hindsight, it's clear how much she has helped me make numerous changes in my life (regarding my beliefs, my outlooks, my behaviors). These changes have demonstrably yielded results (in my career, in my relationships) and have improved the quality of my life and well being. Anna is open-minded, nonjudgmental, safe, and validating. She is also honest, and will provide critical feedback when needed and when appropriate. Through this balance, Anna earned my trust as an objective and perceptive therapist. Her English is excellent, and I've always felt heard and seen by her. Despite the grief, pain, and fear that can accompany deep therapeutic work, I've always looked forward to my sessions with Anna. Overall, I highly recommend Anna as a therapist!

FAQ

Questions you might have.

In which languages do you work?+

English and Portuguese. Sessions are in whichever language feels most natural to you — including switching between them when that helps.

Do you work online?+

Yes. I offer secure online sessions via Zoom for clients in Munich, across Germany, and internationally. Many clients combine in-person and online sessions.

How long does therapy take?+

It depends on what you are working on. Some clients see meaningful change in 8–12 sessions; others choose longer, depth-oriented work. We agree on a direction together after the initial evaluation.

Are sessions covered by insurance?+

Sessions are private. Statutory German health insurance does not reimburse private psychotherapy except in rare exceptional cases. Private insurance and supplementary plans may reimburse — terms vary by contract.

Book an appointment

Ready when you are.

Most clients begin with a 50-minute intake session — in-person in Munich or online. Booking takes less than two minutes.
