Payment & insurance
Private practice — clear billing.
Sessions are private. Billing is based on the German Medical Fee Schedule (GoÄ), applied analogously. Psychotherapy is exempt from VAT (§4 No. 14a UStG).
Are sessions covered by statutory health insurance (GKV)?+
Generally no. Psychotherapy in this private practice is not covered by German statutory health insurance. In very rare exceptional cases, public insurers may reimburse through the Kostenerstattungsverfahren — this depends entirely on the insurer and must be approved in advance.
What about private health insurance (PKV)?+
Private insurance and supplementary plans may partially or fully reimburse sessions. Sessions are invoiced according to the German medical fee schedule (GoÄ, applied by analogy). Coverage varies by contract — please check directly with your insurer in advance.
How is payment handled?+
Payment is made directly by the patient. Invoices are issued privately and are due within 14 days. As a private practitioner I do not bill insurance providers directly. You may submit the invoice to your insurer for possible reimbursement.
Can I cancel a session?+
Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance, by email or phone. Missed or unattended appointments are charged.
Is therapy tax-deductible?+
Psychotherapy expenses may be tax-deductible in Germany if they exceed the legally defined threshold for "außergewöhnliche Belastung" (extraordinary financial burden). Please consult your tax advisor.
