Burnout & Depression Therapy in Munich

Burnout and depression often overlap — both can leave you exhausted, flat and disconnected from things that once mattered. Burnout is a state of emotional, mental and often physical depletion that builds over months or years, usually in people who care deeply about doing things well; left unaddressed, it can slide into depression. Therapy helps you recover, but more importantly, helps you understand what made the depletion possible in the first place — and how to find your way back to energy and meaning.

Signs to watch for

  • Exhaustion that rest no longer fixes
  • Persistent low mood, emptiness or hopelessness
  • Cynicism or detachment from work and people that used to matter
  • Difficulty concentrating, decision fatigue
  • Loss of pleasure or motivation, going through the motions
  • Physical symptoms (sleep, appetite, headaches, gut)

How we work

We work on several layers in parallel: nervous-system recovery, lifting low mood and rebuilding motivation, the relational and work patterns driving the depletion, and the deeper schemas (perfectionism, over-responsibility, conditional self-worth) that often underlie chronic burnout and depression. When low mood is severe, we coordinate with your GP or psychiatrist on whether medication could support the work.

Common questions

Is it burnout or depression?+

They overlap and often coexist. Burnout is usually tied to chronic stress and tends to lift with recovery and changes to your situation; depression can persist independently of circumstances. Part of early therapy is making sense of which is which — and treating both where needed.

Should I go on sick leave?+

This is a medical decision. In therapy we can help you weigh the options and prepare the conversation with your GP.
