Family & Systemic Therapy in Munich

Family therapy looks at difficulties as something that lives between people rather than inside one of them. When a teenager stops talking, when the same argument repeats at every family meal, or when a move abroad has left everyone exhausted and nobody can quite say why, the pattern usually belongs to the whole household. Our family therapy in Munich works with that pattern directly. Sessions are available in German, English, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian, in person in Munich or online. You do not need to know exactly what is wrong before you get in touch; it is enough to know that something between you has become hard to carry.

Sygnały, na które warto zwrócić uwagę

  • The same argument keeps coming back without ever being resolved
  • A child or teenager has withdrawn, or their behaviour has changed sharply
  • You are separating or divorcing and are unsure how to talk to the children
  • Moving to a new country has strained the family in ways nobody expected
  • A blended family is struggling to find its footing
  • One person is carrying something that the whole family has organised itself around
  • Parents and adult children are finding it hard to talk to each other
  • Family members speak different languages at home and feel less and less understood

Jak pracujemy

Systemic therapy is the approach behind our family work. Instead of asking who is at fault, it asks how each person’s response makes sense given everyone else’s: who withdraws, who pursues, what each person is trying to protect. Once that loop becomes visible, it becomes possible to try something different, and the people in it can decide together what to change. Sessions can include two people or more. They do not have to include the whole family, and the combination of people can differ from one session to the next. A first session is about understanding the shape of the difficulty, hearing each person’s view, and agreeing together what would count as things getting better. After that we check in regularly on whether the sessions are helping, and adjust the work, or stop, if they are not. We cannot promise a particular outcome or a particular number of sessions; both depend on the people involved and on what you want from the work. For families who have moved internationally, the sessions also make room for what a move changes: language, roles, distance from relatives, and the different speeds at which each person settles in.

Najczęstsze pytania

Does the whole family have to come?+

No. Useful work often starts with whoever is willing to come. We decide together who it would help to include, and that can change between sessions.

How is this different from individual therapy?+

Individual therapy works with your own experience. Systemic therapy works with the relationships between people, so the focus is on how you interact with one another and not only on one person’s inner life.

What happens in the first session?+

We talk about what brought you here, hear from each person present, and agree what you would like to be different. It is also a chance to see whether this way of working feels right for your family.

What languages are sessions in?+

German, English, Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian. Families often mix languages in a session, which is welcome.

Are sessions in person or online?+

Both are possible. Tell us what suits your family when you get in touch.

How many sessions will we need?+

There is no fixed number, and we do not want to guess before we have met you. We agree on a direction in the first session and review together as we go, so you always know where you stand.

Are sessions covered by statutory health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenkasse)?+

Generally no. Therapy in this private practice is not covered by German statutory health insurance. In very rare exceptional cases, public insurers may reimburse through the Kostenerstattungsverfahren; this depends entirely on the insurer and must be approved in advance. Private insurance and supplementary plans may reimburse, and terms vary by contract, so please check with your insurer before booking.
